I like to organise events that happen in chapters using storymaps, because their main element is brevity. Instead of making boring chronological timelines, storymaps catch people's eyes because of out-of-the-box diagrams. You should try it out too.

We were reading a book called Buddy by Nigel Hinton. It was a very interesting book that portrayed stereotypes in their own day. Our task was to create a character sketch of the main characters in the book ; I chose Buddy, his Mom and his dad named Terry. Character sketches showed me a lot of difference between individuals of the same family! A very unusual investigation...and the colors compromised well(If you haven't read that book, you better read it now!)
